Lime calculator
Free tool: work out how many tonnes of agricultural lime or limestone your field needs, based on area and soil acidity.
How much lime does your field need?
Enter the area and your soil pH to get the rate in tonnes, the number of big bags and truckloads, and an estimate of the fertiliser value you recover.
Rates follow standard liming practice. Fertiliser value is estimated from a typical NPK spend of about €150/ha per year and the improvement in nutrient uptake once acidity is neutralised. The exact rate should come from your own soil analysis.
How the rate is calculated
The calculator follows standard liming practice: the lower the pH, the higher the single application.
| pH up to 4.5 (strongly acidic) | about 3 t/ha |
|---|---|
| pH 4.6–5.2 (moderately acidic) | about 2.5 t/ha |
| pH 5.3–5.8 (slightly acidic) | about 2 t/ha |
| Garden or vegetable plot | 150–350 g/m² |
Adjust for soil texture: heavy clays and loams may need up to 25 % more, light sandy soils less. A soil analysis gives the most accurate answer.
